Liberal arts is one of the oldest-traditional historic programs in the world. Liberal art is derived from the Latin word Liberalis means “Free” and Art means “Arts or principled practice”. Arts, Humanities, Politics and Social science are the courses which will aid you to know more and gives you overview of all subjects included in liberal arts.


What is Liberal Arts?


Liberal arts studies antiquity of the subjects such as an Art, Politics, Humanities and Social science and these are also the four major courses of Liberal Arts one studies about. Liberal arts provides knowledge, understanding, general awareness, practical skills, and to think from different perspectives etc. Critical minds and Political minds are created to control the situation which involves society and political crisis or problems. As Denham Sutcliffe has quoted,” Liberal learning is that which underlie, that which gives purpose and direction to practical skills. It tries to distinguish between the more and the less important, between the grand and the trivial and to concern itself rather with the center than with the periphery.”


What are the courses of Liberal arts?


The courses in Liberal arts are different of each university. The Courses are such as B.A. (Honours), BBA (Honours), (Honours), and B.Sc. (Honours). These are the bachelor program of Liberal arts. A different university provides different courses. The four core areas of liberal arts are Arts, Humanities, Politics, and Social Science. In first two years of graduation you will have minor subjects based on your field of liberal arts. In last two years you will study about the subjects under specialization i.e. major specialization.

These are the subjects which you will study in first two years of under-graduation in Liberal arts. In the last two year of Liberal arts one has to do specialization according to your choice & field of interest from the above subjects or more. Different universities may be not having same subjects as another university.


Who are eligible for these courses?


  • Candidate must have appeared Mathematics and Science as their till standard 10th along with other subjects.
  • Candidate in 11th & 12th standard from any stream or 11th & 12th from Science stream must have taken Mathematics or Biology, Chemistry, Physics with other science subjects.
  • Minimum should have scored 50% in standard 10th & 12th.
